Off to Acadia!

It was a wonderful day for sailing! Angelique entered Deer Island Thoroughfare on the way to Acadia with a  fair breeze and a fair tide ... a beautiful day...

We anchored off Mount Desert Island for a picnic. So much fun! Don't you wish you were with us??

Space is still available on our 2013 cruises. There are many great sailing days ahead!

A Perfect Day on Angelique!

Great spell of weather! We decided to take advantage of a calm afternoon, and have a cookout on one of our favorite spots. The views of Mt. Desert Island were spectacular.

The breeze picked up when the we returned to Angelique, and we headed westward. Last night many of us here stayed up to watch the Persieds meteor shower. Haven't laughed that much in a long time...you had to be there!

Come join us on Angelique and make your own adventures!

A Wedding on Angelique!

Ruth and Dave asked if they could get married on board Angelique!  They went to the town office Monday before we sailed and got the license. They thought they would like to have the ceremony at the lobster bake. What a setting...what a day! We are all so glad that we were able to join them on this special day.

Captain Mike has done a number of weddings both aboard and ashore, and it will be tough to beat this one. The Ashley Book of Knots came out, with the wedding vows inserted appropriately on the long splice page. It was a beautiful setting, a moment that will be remembered by all the Angelique ship mates aboard this week.

On the Bay Again

Angelique's shakedown cruise with the boy scouts went well; rainy, windy but it felt good to be out!

The crew is excited to board guests on for a weeks cruise with Roadscholars the week of June 9th. They  are all happy to put the paint brushes away for a while!

We are looking forward to rafting up with the rest of the windjammer fleet for our annual "Windjammer Gam". "Gams" are a maritime tradition... Captains and crews get together to share news, music, and a few laughs! It's a great way to kick off the season.

It's Good to Be Green!

We have had some great weather the past week or so and have been painting and varnishing up a storm. The crew went on a cruise on the paint float and rolled on a coat of Cedar Green on the topside... "it's good to be green"... and Montgomery White on the waist. Onboard we thought it would be a good idea (seemed like a good idea at the time)  to strip the rails and deck and refinish them.

We can't wait to get out on the bay!

What Goes On Under the Cover??

Angelique’s crew has been painting up a storm ... almost everything has been painted up and looking good! Hope to have the winter cover off this week.

For the past 7 years Rick and Scott (Angelique shipmates) have been coming up for a couple of days in the spring to help with projects. One of their favorites is to work on our hydraulic powered windless. Angelique's anchor windless was looking and acting tired last season and was not running smoothly. You have to understand that the windless itself dates back to the late 1800's; it was not new when Angelique was built in 1980.The hydraulic take off  was added in 1993, to the relief of our guests and crew who would hand crank the anchor up till then.

Besides our guests and crew needing relief, decades of using the windless wore it out ... worn shaft, worn bearings and bushings, etc. Unfortunately we couldn't go to "Windlasses Our Us", so we did the next best thing: we sent the windless to Howard, a clever machinist, over the winter and he replaced the shaft, made new bushings and bearings so the windless was like new. We also replaced the pawl post  (big chunk of wood) to mount the reconditioned windless to.

With the expertise of Rick and Scott we installed the new machinery last week (pictures below). With luck, it will merrily crank up Angelique's anchor for many more decades to come.
